Reading continued their steady start to the season with a goalless draw at home to Birmingham City.

The result means that Reading have now not lost since a 4-1 defeat to Newcastle on August 17.
The Royals enjoyed the lion’s share of possession with 71 per cent. However, this possession did not translate into efforts on goal, with Birmingham managing 14 compared to Reading’s 12.
Goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi played a vital role in salvaging a point for his side, saving gilt-edged chances from Lukas Jutkiewicz and Michael Morrison in the first half.

Diego Fabbrini and David Davis both came close to finding a winner for Birmingham in second-half added time, but the Royals held on win a point and rise one place in the table. Jaap Stam’s side now lie in 10th.
Reading fans took to Twitter after the game with the majority seeing the positives from the club’s current run.
There is a feeling in some quarters that the Royals are playing a very boring brand of football, but on the whole the club faithful are happy with the current state of affairs, particularly in the light of a committed, back-to-the-wall performance such as this.

Reading go to Oakwell on Saturday to take on Barnsley. It will be a challenging encounter for Jaap Stam’s men with Barnsley lying in 3rd place, but they can take confidence from their five-match unbeaten run and will be confident of at least bringing a point back to the Madejski.
