Nasser El Khayati scored the winning penalty for Queens Park Rangers as they beat Swindon 4-2 in a shoot-out.
Nasser El Khayati (L) secured the win for QPR
Queens Park Rangers’ League Cup clash with Swindon Town had finished 1-1 after 90 minutes, before Conor Washington scored in the 93rd minute to give the London club the advantage.
Swindon’s James Brophy equalised in the 107th minute and the scoreline stayed tied at 2-2 when 120 minutes were up.
Anton Rodgers missed the first penalty of the shootout for the Robins, and after Conor Thomas and Jordan Stewart had converted from the spot for the away side, Bradley Barry had his penalty saved by QPR goalkeeper Matt Ingram, giving El Khayati the chance to seal victory for the home team.
Chery and Polter both scored their spot kicks for the Hoops
The Rs did not miss any of their penalties, with Tjaronn Chery, Sebastian Polter and Washington also hitting the back of the net.
Fans were quick to toast the victory on Twitter, hot on the heels of Sunday’s 3-0 win over Leeds, and you can read a selection of their tweets below:
Many fans were in disbelief that they had watched their side win a cup game at all. Last season, QPR lost in the second round of the League Cup to League Two side Carlisle United.
Others focused on Washington’s first goal for the club. Having signed from Peterborough in January, the 24-year-old striker had gone 11 games for the club without troubling the scorers.

Not everyone was quite so happy about the result, with some choosing to focus upon the Rs’ failure to beat a team from the tier below in normal time.
The draw for the second round took place immediately after last night’s encounters, and QPR have been drawn against another League One side in the shape of Rochdale. The match will take place on 23 August at Loftus Road.
QPR manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink will be keen for his charges to maintain their winning start
In the meantime, QPR continue their Championship campaign with a trip to Cardiff City on Sunday and they will be looking to extend their 100% win record this season.
