Leicester City began their Champions League campaign with a 3-0 win away to Club Brugge.

Leicester City went into Wednesday night’s encounter with many thinking this would be a step too far and that their dream run of success would come to a crashing end.

But it was not to be, and the Foxes ran away with an outstanding victory out in Belgium.

They got off to a dream start as Marc Albrighton gave Claudio Ranieri’s side the lead after only five minutes with their first effort on goal.

Albrighton’s role in Leicester’s historic night was symbolic. The club’s endeavours in the past 13 months have been built upon the underdog attitude of players rejected by other clubs, and the irony will not be lost on many that while Albrighton was playing in the Champions League, Aston Villa – who released Albrighton two years ago – were playing in the Championship.

One of Leicester’s talisman, Riyad Mahrez, doubled the lead in the 29th minute with an excellent free-kick, curled right into the top corner.

Mahrez got his second in the second half from the penalty spot after Jamie Vardy was brought down by Brugge goalkeeper Jose Izquierdo.

In typical Leicester style they enjoyed only 38% possession but managed 13 shots on goal (two more than Brugge), while also being clinical in front of goal.

Leicester fans took to Twitter after the match and were unsurprisingly waxing lyrical about the evening’s events:

Leicester return to Premier League action on Saturday when they play host to Bournemouth.
