Liverpool convincingly beat Championship side Burton 5-0 at the Pirelli Stadium in last night’s EFL Cup second round, with Daniel Sturridge getting a brace.

Jurgen Klopp named a strong side that simply had too much for the Championship new boys. With 58% possession and eight shots on target to Burton’s zero, there was no doubt who the victor was.
Belgian striker Divock Origi opened the scoring after 15 minutes before Roberto Firmino doubled the score seven minutes later.
Burton defender Tom Naylor put the ball into his own net just after the hour mark. Replacement Daniel Sturridge scored a late double to take the margin of victory to five.
Klopp’s men had something to prove after last weekend’s 2-0 defeat to Burnley (despite having 81% possession and 26 shots on goal) and unfortunately for Nigel Clough it was his Burton side who came up against the red tide.
After successive promotions, Burton’s challenging start to the season continued, as they lie in 18th with their sole Championship victory coming against Sheffield Wednesday.
