Championship side Fulham defeated Premier League new boys Middlesbrough 2-1 in their EFL Cup second round tie.

In an even game, Middlesbrough took the lead after eight minutes through David Nugent. When Fulham finally managed an equaliser, they had a helping hand from Julien de Sart, with the Boro midfielder deflecting the ball into his own net.
Neither side could find a winner in normal time and so the crowd at Craven Cottage were treated to an extra 30 minutes of football.
It looked as though penalties would be needed to separate the sides (and with it a possible repeat of the previous night’s 14-13 epic between Derby County and Carlisle United), but in the 113th minute Danish midfielder Lasse Vigen Christensen converted Scott Malone’s cross and sealed a win for the Cottagers.
The win means that Fulham continue their unbeaten start to the season, whilst Middlesbrough have suffered their first defeat having won and drawn their first two matches of this year’s Premier League campaign.
