Leicester City began their Champions League campaign with a 3-0 win away to Club Brugge.
The Foxes allayed any fears that they might be out of depth in Europe’s top competition with an outstanding 3-0 win away from home, thanks to goals from Marc Albrighton and Riyad Mahrez – once from a free-kick and then from the penalty spot.
Mahrez – as he so often is – was Leicester’s star attraction, while Jamie Vardy’s pace caused the Belgian side problems, leading to the foul that brought Leicester’s third goal from the penalty spot.
BBC Sport reported earlier in the day that some Brugge fans weren’t bothering to turn up to the match, as Leicester aren’t a “big team”.
Well, Leicester may never do enough to convince Europe’s elite that they are a big team, but they showed they are big enough to bloody some noses along the way, even if this is their only foray into the upper echelons of European football.
