Chelsea beat Bristol Rovers 3-2 in the second round of the EFL Cup thanks to two goals and an assist from new signing Michy Batshuayi.
Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi warms up before the game
Chelsea took the lead in the 29th minute through a Batshuayi volley, before Victor Moses doubled the lead only two minutes later.
In an exciting end to the first-half, Peter Hartley put Rovers on the scoreboard before Batshuayi’s second gave his side a 3-1 half-time lead, and Chelsea were in control.
The 22-year-old Belgian has continued his fine start to the season, having opened his Chelsea account with a goal against Watford on the weekend.
The second-half was a different story, as Rovers began to make life difficult for the Blues.
The pressure told and in the 48th minute Ellis Harrison converted a penalty after Pedro had fouled Stuart Sinclair in the box.
Harrison would then go on to hit the woodwork – whilst Batshuayi also had a hat-trick goal ruled out for offside for Chelsea – but his Rovers side were unable to snatch an equaliser and Antonio Conte’s men, who had made 28 attempts on goal, managed to hold on for the win.
