Derby County’s poor start to the season continued with a 1-0 defeat at home to Ipswich Town.

Despite completely outplaying Ipswich in terms of possession, the Rams were unable to trouble the scorers meaning that they now lie just above the relegation zone in 20th place, but only on goal difference.
In seven Championship matches this season, Derby have scored a scarcely believable one goal, with only Rotherham’s tally of five anywhere near to the Midlanders’ paltry effort.
After a first half dominated by Derby, Ipswich took the lead in the 51st minute through ex-Ram Luke Varney, despite the efforts of County goalkeeper Scott Carson who got two hands to the shot.

Derby came close to scoring through Darren Bent, Will Hughes and Nick Blackmani but could not improve their dreadful scoring record.
Based on the stats alone, it’s hard to understand how Ipswich won. Derby enjoyed 61% possession, while they managed 23 shots on goal compared to Ipswich’s five.

It was no surprise that the Derby faithful took to Twitter after the match to show their displeasure with their sides’ endeavours in front of goal, although some approached the troubles with a sense of humour.
There is a differing of opinion among the fans, with some confident Nigel Pearson’s side can rectify the issues, while others are worried that this could be the start of a tough season for the club.
