Everton have reportedly failed in a move to sign Andriy Yarmolenko – because their offer came in too late.

Dynamo Kiev president Ihor Surkis has been quoted by the Liverpool Echo as saying that he was happy to sell Andriy Yarmolenko to Everton on deadline day – but their bid came in too late.

Everton endured a frustrating deadline day as they missed out on a number of key transfer targets, leaving fans deflated as Enner Valencia was the only first-team player brought in on the final day of the transfer window.

The Liverpool Echo note that moves for Southampton’s Cuco Martina and Sunderland’s Lamine Kone fell through on deadline day, whilst Moussa Sissoko chose Tottenham over the Toffees to compound Everton’s misery.

Now, revelations from Dynamo Kiev president Ihor Surkis suggest that Everton missed out on yet another target on deadline day, this time in Andriy Yarmolenko.

Yarmolenko, 26, hit 19 goals last season for Dynamo Kiev, and has earned a reputation as one of the most dangerous wingers in Europe having smashed move than 100 goals since the start of the 2010-11 season.

A Ukrainian international with 25 goals in 59 caps, Yarmolenko has been linked with a move to the Premier League on a number of occasions, and it seems that Everton were keen to finally lure him to England.

However, Surkis has been quoted by the Liverpool Echo as saying that he received a bid from Everton for Yarmolenko on deadline day, and was happy to accept the deal as long as the winger himself was keen.

The deal didn’t go through though, as Surkis claims the offer came in with just 75 minutes of the transfer window left to go, and didn’t even have time to draw up a contract to secure the move.

“Everton submitted a bid for Yarmolenko one hour and 15 minutes prior to the deadline,” said Surkis. “I was satisfied with the transfer price but we did not have time to even draw up a contract. I was satisfied with the offer as long as Andriy was. Transfer bids cannot be submitted that late,” he added.
