Sunderland midfielder Dylan McGeouch has told The Scottish Sun that he faces a ‘big decision’ on his future after a disappointing campaign.

McGeouch, 26, starred in Scotland with Hibernian, emerging as one of the Scottish Premiership’s top midfielders under Neil Lennon.

When his contract expired last summer, the Scotland international chose a move to Sunderland in League One – but the move hasn’t panned out as he’d have hoped.

McGeouch made just 14 league starts and 19 in total, registering no goals and two assists. With Grant Leadbitter returning to the club in January, the Scot slipped further down the pecking order.

McGeouch’s last appearance for Sunderland came on the final day of the season, playing for just 20 minutes against Southend United, and didn’t appear at all in the playoffs.

The former Celtic man wasn’t even on the bench for the final against Charlton, and it seems that he’s now frustrated with his role under Jack Ross at the Stadium of Light.

McGeouch has admitted that he now has a big decision to make, revealing that he’s told Ross how he feels, and whilst he understands that he can only pick 18 players, he simply isn’t getting enough playing time.

McGeouch did though add that he doesn’t regret his move, and still thinks he can help Sunderland be successful, meaning he may yet choose to stay on Wearside this summer.

“I have a big decision to make. It’s disappointing I haven’t played as much as I’d have liked,” said McGeouch. “I’m fit and feel good and I felt I could bring something to the team on Sunday. I expressed that to the manager, but he can only pick 18 players. I’ll see where my future is at and take it from there. It’s been a stop-start campaign, but I’ve been available for the majority of games. I’ve only played a handful. I’ve had wee niggles, but I’ve just not had a lot of game time. I’m going to go away over the summer and reassess things and see where we are.”

“I still think it was the right move at the time. The manager gave me a game initially, and if I turned back the clock I’d still come here. I haven’t given up hope of making it here. I still believe I can play a part in helping Sunderland be successful,” he added.
