The Black Cats midfielder was linked with Glasgow Rangers last year but ended up picking the Stadium of Light over Ibrox.
Sunderland midfielder Dylan McGeouch has spoken about how the Scottish contingent at the Stadium of Light has been instrumental with helping him to settle south of the border.
The former Hibernian man, who moved to the League One side after leaving Easter Road last July, has made 23 appearances in all competitions for the Black Cats this season including 17 in the league, according to Transfermarkt.
McGeouch was Jack Ross’ fifth signing as Sunderland boss and the 26-year-old admitted that he could not turn down the chance to work with the former St Mirren manager.
“Jack has been good, obviously I know him from Scotland, and I know he’s got a great reputation,” McGeouch told the Daily Record.
“I was excited to come down and once I came down to meet him it ticked all the boxes. It’s a massive club, with a good manager, and I was excited to work with him. It was a big part of coming here.”
The Black Cats’ coaching setup also includes fellow Scots James Fowler, John Potter and Craig Samson, which McGeough says has contributed to him settling in better.
“Knowing people from up the road, having a bit of banter, and just hearing the Scottish accent about the place… they are good people,” he added.
“They’re good with everyone. They have helped me settle very well. There’s a great balance with the backroom staff and it’s a great place to be working.”
McGeouch, who was reported by the Chronicle Live to be on the radar of Rangers, Aberdeen and Blackburn Rovers in the summer, is understood to have signed a two-year deal at the Stadium of Light, according to the same outlet.
The Wearside outfit’s next fixture is away at Scunthorpe United in the league on Saturday, with the Black Cats currently third in the table on 52 points, five off the top, with a game in hand on Portsmouth and Luton Town.
