Aston Villa are on the hunt for a new manager, following their relegation from the Premier League.
Dwight Yorke has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show, which was broadcast on 23rd May, that he would be keen to take the Aston Villa job.
Yorke has expressed an interest in becoming Villa’s next manager on numerous occasions, and he is still keen on leading his former side.
The ex-Manchester United striker believes that he was close to be handed a chance at an interview following the departure of Remi Garde, and he has still not given up hope on managing the Claret and Blues.
“I’d still love it, given the opportunity,” Yorke said, when asked whether he would be interested in the Villa job.
“I would love to have a conversation about it. I was close when the previous chairman was in charge, when Remi Garde left the football club. That obviously was put on hold and the new owners probably have a different direction, but I’m still hopeful.”
As a player, Yorke made 232 appearances for Villa, and scored on 73 occasions.
Yorke is yet to have a managerial role, although he was assistant manager for his country, Trinidad and Tobago, for just over a year.
The 44-year-old is not considered to be one of the favourites to land the Villa job, following their relegation to the Championship.
Villa are expected to appoint a more experienced manager, as they look to bounce straight back from relegation.
The Villains reportedly have the likes of Roberto Di Matteo and Nigel Pearson on their wishlist, as they search for a new manager.
