Steve Bruce is still unbeaten since taking charge at Aston Villa.
Dwight Yorke has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 3rd November, that he text Steve Bruce to congratulate him on getting the Aston Villa job.
Yorke had publicly announced his interest in becoming Villa’s next manager, but he was not interviewed by the Midlands club.
Instead, Villa ended up going for Bruce – after parting company with Roberto Di Matteo.
Bruce has made an impressive start to life at Villa, and taken eight points from his first four matches in charge.
And Yorke said, of his former Manchester United teammate: “I’ve not spoke to Steve, but I sent him a text when he got it to tell him congratulations.
“This is what I’ve been asking for at Villa – you need to go in and make an impact and Steve has been able to do that.
“Good managers go in there, and even with a team that is lacking in confidence, you can see the change in the players.
“I’m confident he can get Villa back on the right track.”
Bruce’s start at Villa has seen him pick up wins against Fulham and Reading, and he has also helped the side collect draws against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Birmingham City.
Villa had won just once under Di Matteo’s guidance, but they have improved considerably now.
The claret and blues are still in 15th place in the Championship table, but they are now only six points away from the play offs.
