Steve Bruce has endured a mixed time since arriving at Aston Villa last year.
Dwight Yorke has told The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT (broadcast on 18th September 2017; 8:43 am) that Aston Villa’s win over Barnsley at the weekend was a massive one, and insists that Steve Bruce is still the right man to lead them to success.
Bruce has endured a difficult time since arriving at Villa Park towards the end of last year, and the pressure appeared to building on the former Hull boss after their lacklustre start to the new Championship season.
Going into their clash with Barnsley on Saturday, the Villans had won just once in the league in their opening seven games, suggesting that a promotion push may be beyond them once again this term.
But Villa alleviated much of the pressure with an emphatic win at Oakwell to move themselves up to 13th in the table, just five points off the top six. And Yorke insisted that his old side currently have the best man for the job at the helm.
“A massive one, a needed one,” he told The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT when asked how big a win it was.
“I think Brucey has proven time and time again what a fantastic manager he is. He’s done it at all levels. I know the fans are impatient, they all want success, but I feel they have got the right man.”
While results have not been ideal for the Villans lately, it must not be forgotten that they have not lost any of their last six games in all competitions, and have often simply struggled to get a piece of luck in front of goal in the games that they have failed to win.
And with three of the bottom six ahead before the end of October, Bruce can perhaps feel confident that they will soon be able to put their slow start to the season behind them.
