Newcastle United are heading back to the Premier League.

With two games to spare, Newcastle United have clinched promotion back to the Premier League.
They did so with a 4-1 win over Preston North End at St James’ Park, making light work of their opponents on a night which seemed more fitting of a coronation rather a contest.
Newcastle accomplished their win without striker Dwight Gayle, who has been sitting out injured for the past month.

Gayle posted on Instagram after the game in response to the victory, sharing how he watched the win.
The striker had made it a family event, watching the match high in the stands with his daughter.
Gayle may have missed out on playing in last night’s match, yet he can feel satisfied that he has played a huge part in helping Newcastle accomplish promotion.
He has scored 22 goals this season and is on course to end the campaign as their top scorer.

Next season he faces a challenge to replicate that form in the Premier League and will be motivated by his lack of action at Crystal Palace last time around.
It would make sense for Newcastle to look to sign another goalscorer in the summer, but Gayle has done more than enough this season to show he deserves a first crack at leading the line.
