Dwight Gayle joined Newcastle United from Crystal Palace in the summer transfer window.
Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle has suggested to the club’s official website that he wants to score at least 20 goals next season.
Gayle has joined Championship club Newcastle from Premier League outfit Crystal Palace.
As announced on the Magpies’ official website, the 25-year-old striker has signed a five-year contract.
According to The London Evening Standard, Newcastle had to pay as much as £10 million to secure the services of the former Peterborough United striker.
Gayle has suggested that he wants to score at least 20 goals for Rafael Benitez’s side during the 2016-17 season.
“I’m quite good at finishing, I suppose,” Gayle told Newcastle’s official website. “I’m quite quick, and I’m going to give my all and work hard for the team, and try my best every game.
“You want to get to the 20 mark, and that’s the first stage you want to get to. You go into each game trying to score, but the main aim for us is just to get promoted – that’s going to be the main idea.”
Gayle is a decent striker, but his record at Palace in terms of goalscoring was far from impressive.
The 25-year-old scored three goals and created eight chances in 16 Premier League appearances for Palace during the 2015-16 season.
During the 2014-15 campaign, the former Peterborough striker scored five goals and created 16 chances in 25 league matches for the Eagles.
Back in 2013-14, Gayle scored four goals and created two chances in six Premier League games for Palace.
