The Magpies’ new number nine has lofty ambitions.
Dwight Gayle celebrates after scoring for Crystal Palace
Newcastle summer signing Dwight Gayle has spoken of his desire to become a hero at St James Park, in quotes published by the Chronicle.
The 25-year old joined from Crystal Palace last month and will be keen to reignite his career after stalling at Selhurst Park in recent seasons.

Newcastle fans have been treated to a raft of fantastic frontmen over the years and Gayle is hoping to add his name to that long list.
“It’ll be amazing to make the fans happy and become a hero as number 9 would be everything I’d dream of,” said Gayle.
The former Palace man knows the Championship well and he will be confident of finding his goalscoring touch once again.

Gayle has scored 88 goals in 179 club appearances to date and with Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ayoze Perez also at their disposal, Newcastle shouldn’t find goals too hard to come by next season.
Rafael Benitez’s men begin their promotion push tomorrow night at Craven Cottage, where Fulham welcome them back to English football’s second tier, and they will be determined to get off to a winning start.
