Dwight Gayle has already scored 19 goals for Newcastle United this season.
Dwight Gayle has admitted to the Shields Gazette that he sometimes get frustrated at Newcastle United, as he is rarely involved in the build up play.
Gayle is told to play on the shoulder of the last defender, and get in the opposition’s box as often as possible.
Rafael Benitez wants the 26-year-old forward to stay forward at all times, to ensure that he can do maximum damage.
Often it means that Gayle can be on the periphery of games, with his sole role to be a predator when a chance comes along.
Gayle has performed his task brilliantly so far this season, and he already has 19 goals.
However, the striker admits that there are times where he wishes he was more involved with the play.
“At times, I perhaps get a bit frustrated because I maybe don’t get to touch the ball as much as I want, but when I do get to touch the ball, it’s obviously in good positions, and I’m scoring so I can’t argue really,” Gayle said.
Gayle currently leads the way in the race to become Championship top goalscorer, and he netted two in his most recent appearance against Nottingham Forest.
The former Crystal Palace man looks likely to start again later today, when Newcastle take on Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.
