Former Ibrox star Arthur Numan has raved about Rangers striker Cedric Itten to The Sunday Post.

Rangers signed Itten from St Gallen in the summer transfer window for a transfer fee reported by The Sunday Post to be worth £2 million.

According to WhoScored, the 23-year-old Switzerland international striker has played 64 minutes in the Scottish Premiership for the Gers so far this season.

Former Rangers and Netherlands international full-back Numan scouted the striker for AZ Alkmaar, and he has raved about the youngster.

Numan told The Sunday Post: “He is tall, has a good presence and can score goals. Over 15 or 20 yards, he has a good turn of pace, and can be very dangerous. I also liked his work ethic. At the right moment, he would move into space to give his team-mates an option for a pass.

“If you are the player in possession, it makes life so much easier when players look to receive the ball. His movement was clever, too. It wasn’t as though he was just running around for the sake of it.

“No, he picked the right moment, peeling away from his marker at nice times. He also looks to have that winning mentality. I could see him trying to inspire those around him, and the times I watched him, he always gave 100%.

“I think the Rangers fans are going to really take to him. He has that kind of personality.”

Good signing for Rangers?

Itten is unlikely to be considered as the first-choice striker at Rangers anytime soon, with Alfredo Morelos, Kemar Roofe and Jermain Defoe also in the squad.

However, the 23-year-old will give Rangers manager Steven Gerrard another option on the substitutes’ bench and could come in handy as the season progresses.

Meanwhile, Gerrard has said that he hopes that Joe Aribo will be available for the upcoming weekend, with the midfielder having missed the match against Livingston this past Sunday with an ankle injury.

Gerrard told The Scottish Sun: “I’m hoping to have Joe back for next weekend. He’s got a small ankle problem that we scanned.

“There’s a bit of swelling in there which is obviously a big risk coming to a surface like the one at Livingston.”

Kris Boyd was following Rangers’s draw with Livingston, and the former Gers striker was not impressed with Alfredo Morelos, but former Celtic midfielder Alan Thompson was pleased with the final result.

The Daily Record quotes Boyd as saying: “Alfredo Morelos, everyone has been telling me he’s back scoring goals – and he has a couple – but his all round play and everything else is not good enough.

“Again, coming here today, he’s got a young boy coming on for him in Itten and I know he’s a young boy himself but he goes off in a mood.

“I get not being happy that you’re being taken off but you’ve got to show respect to your team-mates.

“You’ve got a guy coming on for an opportunity to maybe go and get a winning goal. Go give him some words of wisdom and try and push him on.”
