Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt.
According to Wednesday’s edition of Het Perool, Mino Raiola – set to become Matthijs de Ligt’s agent – isn’t a fan of Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, and that could scupper a move.
De Ligt, 18, has come up through the ranks of Ajax’s famed academy, and has emerged as arguably the finest teenage centre back in Europe.
The Dutchman has now made 60 first-team appearances for the Amsterdam outfit and already has five caps for the Netherlands national team, with a huge future predicted for him.
His displays for Ajax have left many clubs around Europe pursuing his signature, and Football.London recently reported that Spurs want to land De Ligt as a replacement for Toby Alderweireld.
Tottenham may have to pay around £50m to stand any chance of landing De Ligt, but Dutch reports now appear to be putting Spurs’ chances of signing him in major doubt.
Algemeen Dagblad report that super agent Mino Raiola is set to become De Ligt’s new agent, and Wednesday’s edition of Het Perool, as written by Henk Spaan, suggests that Raiola is no fan of Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.
It’s claimed that Raiola doesn’t love being involved in deals with Levy, and given that ‘new players’ are allegedly only offered up to €70,000-a-week (£62,000), Raiola is likely to take his client elsewhere.
If true, that would be a major blow for Tottenham, but until Raiola is truly in charge of De Ligt’s business, Spurs should still hold out hope of securing a major coup this summer.
