Sunderland were beaten 3-0 by Everton in their most recent fixture.
Duncan Watmore has told the Chronicle that Sunderland boss David Moyes encouraged his side to go for the three points at half-time during their match against Everton last Monday.
Sunderland went into the break with the scores locked at 0-0 against Everton, and they could feel fairly pleased with their first-half performance.
The Black Cats had matched the Toffees for much of the opening 45 minutes, and even had the best opportunity to break the deadlock – which Jermain Defoe had missed.
Moyes was clearly encouraged by what he had seen, and urged his Black Cats team to attempt to grab a winner.
“The message at half-time was to work on a few things and to try and get a winner but unfortunately we were slack and for whatever reason we didn’t do that,” Watmore said.
However, Moyes team-talk did not have the desired impact, as Sunderland were awful in the second-half.
The Black Cats collapsed after the break, and allowed Romelu Lukaku to score a rapid fire hat-trick for Everton.
The Toffees went on to secure a 3-0 triumph, which left the Stadium of Light a very frustrated place.
“We have to deal with it,” Watmore added. “It is annoying, frustrating but we have to go again. We know we need to do better and will try to do that at Tottenham on Sunday.”
Sunderland are still yet to win a match in the Premier League this season – leaving them in the relegation zone at this early stage.
