Sunderland youngster Duncan Watmore is on the verge of making his first-team breakthrough.
Sunderland youngster Duncan Watmore has told the Daily Mail that he looks up to John O’Shea and Wes Brown.
Watmore has been training with the Black Cats’ first-team on a regular basis this season and feels privileged to be able to play alongside the likes of O’Shea and Brown.
The former Manchester United pair have enjoyed long and distinguished careers at the top level and Watmore says that they are more than happy to offer him advice.
“Well you’ve obviously got the John O’Shea’s and the Wes Brown’s, they’re class with you when you go over there,” he said. “To be honest all of them are very welcoming and are always willing to give you advice on how to improve.”
Watmore is looking to forge a career for himself in the Premier League and has made positive strides forward over recent months.
The 21-year-old has been pushing for a senior appearance all season and his form for the academy side of late is starting to make him impossible to ignore.
Watmore has netted six goals in his last six matches and is widely regarded as the brightest prospect to be emerging from Sunderland’s youth system.
So far this season he has been overlooked on a regular basis by Gus Poyet and Dick Advocaat, but he will be hoping that the 2015/16 campaign proves to be the one that finally sees him make the breakthrough.
