Leeds United defender Laurens De Bock did not feature during the week against Bolton, so could his career at Elland Road be over?

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa decided to rotate his team for the first round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night and kept up his brilliant start with a 2-1 win over Championship rivals Bolton.

However, one man that didn’t get any minutes was defender Laurens De Bock, an unused substitute for the match at Elland Road.

The 25-year-old was snubbed from the side in favour young duo Jamie Shackleton and Tom Pearce in the full-back positions, while he also didn’t get a run out at centre-back despite his versatility.

De Bock featured for Bielsa in pre-season and has been playing for the club’s Under-23s side, but maybe the writing is on the wall for his exit.

The left-footed Belgian has had a torrid spell so far during his Leeds career since he joined in January and Bielsa’s selection against Bolton suggests he is some way off a starting position.

There is still time for the left-back to depart before the close of the window at the end of this month and his first-team prospects look slim.

He is currently behind both Barry Douglas and Pearce in his favoured left-back position, while there are a number of centre-backs above him in the pecking order too.

De Bock will surely not want to sit around in the youth team this season considering he is someone that has experience of European football and it will be interesting to see how the next couple of weeks plays out for him.
