Rangers’ manic summer spending has seen a number of quality additions link up with the squad at Ibrox and of course that means competition for places has been cranked up significantly.
One man that may be feeling the heat is defender Declan John, who was a mainstay at left-back for much of last season and also turned his loan move into a permanent one from Cardiff City.
He now has a new rival teammate in the shape of Jon Flanagan lurking in the shadows and by the looks of things the pair could be battling for just one full-back starting position.

Steven Gerrard will take charge of his first competitive game of the Light Blues in under two weeks time, when they face Macedonian outfit FK Shkupi in a Europa League qualifier.
His squad stepped up preparations for that with a 3-1 victory over Welsh side TNS in a friendly on Tuesday and he opted to give both Flanagan and John 45 minutes at left-back.
Ex-Liverpool defender Flanagan, 25, may have the edge with Gerrard given that the pair previously played together at Anfield and he has given him the opportunity to revive his stuttering career at Ibrox.
However, 23-year-old John still has time to prove to the new manager he is the best option at left-back and he does give the side a more balanced feel given that he is left-footed.
John proved his attacking qualities last season during his 31 appearances for the Scottish giants, scoring three goals and supplying four assists in return.
