Tottenham have confirmed that centre-forward Vincent Janssen has undergone “minor surgery” on his foot – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter have been critical of the player following the announcement.

Spurs revealed that the 24-year-old will now go through rehabilitation with them after his surgery.

Janssen has become a bit of a forgotten man at the North London club, as he spent the entire of the 2017/18 campaign out on loan with Turkish club Fenerbahce.

The striker scored five goals in 18 appearances across all competitions in Turkey.

His Spurs future seemed over after a disappointing debut season with them in the 2016/17 year, but it seems he is sticking around for another year as he recovers from an injury setback.

Janssen failed to provide adequate cover for Harry Kane as the second striker, something that Fernando Llorente followed suit with last year.

A selection of Spurs fans on social media have responded to Janssen’s news by claiming either they had forgotten about him, or that he will hardly be a big miss to the squad.
