Sheffield Wednesday attacker Lucas Joao has extended his contract at Hillsborough – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter are delighted about the announcement.

The 24-year-old’s contract with the Owls was due to expire next summer, but he has now committed his future to them.

Wednesday have confirmed that the centre-forward has signed a new deal with them until 2021.

He is currently sidelined with a groin injury, but started the season in good form with an assist on the opening day.

The two-time capped Portugal international is a colossus striker that enjoyed a decent season last year for Wednesday.

He made 34 appearances across all competitions for the Yorkshire club, scoring nine goals and supplying four assists in return.
