Celtic midfielder Olivier Ntcham is reportedly attracting interest from Portuguese giants Porto, but it would be a disaster for the club to lose him.

According to RMC Sport, Porto have begun discussions with the 22-year-old’s representatives and want to try wrap up a deal in this summer’s transfer window.

The Frenchman is still under contract with Brendan Rodgers’ side until 2021 and has developed into a vital player during his first year with the club.

Ntcham has barely put a foot wrong for Celtic so far and here are three reasons why it would be a nightmare to lose him to Porto:

Goals from midfield

Ntcham is an all-action midfielder that helps provide great defensive cover, but has shown he can influence the play further forward too.

He managed an impressive nine goals across all competitions last season for Celtic and is already off the mark with two strikes in his opening six games this campaign.

It is vital to have players chipping in with goals from all over the park and he certainly does that when he bursts forward.

He will get better

Ntcham is remarkably still aged just 22 and there is so much more to come from him in a Celtic shirt if he stays.

He seamlessly walked into the starting XI last season during his first year with the club and has become a mainstay ever since.

The midfield has a great mentor alongside him in the shape of captain Scott Brown and supporters are seeing a rapid improvement from him on weekly basis.

There is also a very good chance his valuation will rise in the transfer market if he continues to turn in impressive performances in Scotland, especially when they feature in Europe.

Would highlight difficult transfer window

Celtic may have landed Odsonne Edouard on a permanent deal this summer, but the summer transfer window has hardly been kind to them so far and they have already lost midfielder Stuart Armstrong.

Offloading one of the club’s top players in Ntcham would send out a poor message and they would find it extremely difficult to replace him in the midfield area.

There is still time for Rodgers with the window shutting at the end of August, but he needs to be strengthening his squad with new players and not getting rid of star names.
