Stan Collymore believes that Nottingham Forest can be in the mix for the promotion spots in the new season, if they sharpen up in front of goal and become a little more streetwise in matches.

The Reds have opened their campaign with two consecutive 1-1 draws, the first away to Bristol City at the weekend.

Aitor Karanka’s side were also held at home by West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday night in the Championship, as a late Matt Phillips strike cancelled out Adlene Guedioura’s goal for the hosts at the City Ground.

Ex-Forest striker Collymore has revealed that he is encouraged by the way his former side have started the season, despite the fact they remain win-less in the two fixtures so far.

“Bit of ruthlessness in front of goal and a bit more streetwise in seeing a game out and this Forest team won’t be far off. Good, progressive football played in the traditions of the club. Very encouraging!” Collymore wrote on his personal Twitter account.
