Southampton should bin a reported £10million bid from Watford for their midfielder James Ward-Prowse.
Southampton have reportedly received a bid from Watford for James Ward-Prowse and manager Mark Hughes would become the number one villain around St Mary’s if he sanctions the midfielder’s exit.
Watford have tabled a £10million offer for the midfielder to try find out if Hughes is willing to offload him, according to the Sun.
However, the Saints would be out of their minds to let the 23-year-old go for such a minimal fee, especially given the fact he is still under contract with them until 2022 and can be pivotal moving forward.
Ward-Prowse is a crucial member of the Southampton squad given his rise rise from academy to first team and is at the quality required to compete for a starting XI berth in the upcoming season.
The dead-ball specialist has proven he can keep the team ticking over when he is on top of his game and he made 35 appearances across all competitions last season.
The Englishman chipped in with five goals and four assists from midfield, while he should only continue to improve as he gets older.
According to Sky Sports, Leicester City forked out £22million for Norwich City’s English playmaker James Maddison this summer.
That deal puts into perspective the state of the current transfer market and Ward-Prowse’s experience in the top flight should see him valued similarly to Maddison, if not even more.
