Angus Gunn could turn out to be one of the top signings of the summer, as Southampton reportedly close in on a permanent deal for the Manchester City goalkeeper.

The Saints are close to securing a move for the 22-year-old giant, according to BBC Sport.

Gunn excelled out on loan in the Championship at Norwich City last season, keeping 16 clean sheets in 51 appearances across all competitions.

The 6ft 4in colossus has the potential to be a massive success in the Premier League and was training with the England squad before they departed for the World Cup this summer.

Southampton’s goalkeeper position appears up for grabs with both Fraser Forster and Alex McCarthy in the frame, but the Man City shot-stopper could be a major success at St Mary’s ahead of them.

Gunn has proven he is a commanding figure that looks good enough for the top flight and it’s easy to envisage him having a breakout season in the Premier League next year.

It would be a genius move from manager Mark Hughes to bring him in considering his huge potential.
