Should Tottenham promote Oliver Skipp to the first team after his pre-season performances?

Tottenham youngster Oliver Skipp has certainly made the most of the club’s pre-season tour by impressing at senior level in friendlies, but should the manager consider fast-tracking him to the first team?

The 17-year-old defensive midfielder has impressed with matured displays in pre-season matches against Roma and Barcelona this summer, with Spurs’ options depleted due to the numerous participants the World Cup.

Spurs first teamer Christian Eriksen has come out to put tremendous praise onto Skipp and feels that he is a real talent that has not looked out of place.

“I think the guy who’s the youngest is probably Skippy, who’s really taken the game in his hands and is trying to do his thing. He’s been very good,” Eriksen said, as quoted by the Sun.

“What I like about him is his courage. He is not scared to get the ball, he is not scared to go forward and he is not scared to tackle. He’s an all-round midfielder.

“And I think with a lot of training, as he gets older, he will be there.”

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has a knack of helping young talents develop and there may be enough to suggest Skipp could be the next off that production line.

The North London club are not blessed with a lot of cover in the middle of the park, where back-up option Moussa Sissoko is often criticised for his performances.

Skipp is a no-nonsense midfielder that usually screens the back four and has proven he is also very technically gifted on the ball.

Eriksen has certainly backed the rising star for a big future and he should hope that a senior opportunity lies just around the corner when the season officially starts.
