Alan Shearer has raved about Tottenham Hotspur defender Kieran Trippier after his performance for England in the win over Colombia.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Kieran Trippier continued his dazzling form in the World Cup on Tuesday night, as England secured a dramatic qualification to the quarter-finals.
Gareth Southgate’s side managed to come through the dreaded penalty shootout to set-up a meeting with Sweden in the next stage of the competition after a fiery encounter with Colombia in the last 16.

Yerry Mina’s 93rd-minute goal cancelled out a Harry Kane penalty during normal time, but England went on to win on penalties for the first time ever in a World Cup.

Ex-Lions star Alan Shearer opted to give Tottenham wing-back Kieran Trippier special praise for his individual performance and he has been a shinning light in the tournament so far.
“Whilst we are on about Trippier, I thought he was brilliant tonight,” Shearer said on BBC One programme MOTD: World Cup Highlights (11:20pm, Tuesday, July 2, 2018).
“He gave us width, he whipped so many great balls in, he defended when he had to. I thought he was one of our star performers tonight.”
Trippier was one of the players who successfully converted his penalty and his Spurs teammate Eric Dier went on to net the decisive one, while Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford also took the headlines.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has helped Trippier improve massively in the past couple of seasons and the right wing-back is now a force to be reckoned with.
The 27-year-old is now England’s chief set-piece operator and last season for Spurs he chipped in with nine assists, something that highlights how much of an attacking threat he can be.
