The 25-year-old flyer is a right-back with brilliant pace and has shown he can produce in attack, but needs to tighten up defensively to become a regular starter in Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
According to RMC Sport, Atletico Madrid chased a move for Aurier in the summer transfer window, but a potential deal fell apart despite the player being keen on the switch.
The Ivory Coast international has remained with Spurs for his second season with them and now needs to get his head down to try rediscover the form he showed at previous club Paris Saint-Germain.
Aurier would be best served taking a leaf out of the book of teammate Kieran Trippier, who is currently the first-choice right-back at Spurs ahead of him.
Trippier has been in his exact shoes, as he spent time behind ex-Spurs defender Kyle Walker in the full-back pecking order before eventually becoming a star.
The 27-year-old is now a regular for club and country England, with his performances in the last year making him one of the best right-backs around.
Aurier should strive to push Trippier for a starting position this season and is sure to get his opportunities due to the amount of games Spurs will face across both European and domestic competitions.
It is vital that Aurier impresses whenever he gets the opportunity and to his credit he delivered a well balanced performance on the opening day of the Premier League, picking up an assist in a 2-1 win over Newcastle United.
His positional play could have been a little wiser on the Newcastle goal by Joselu and minor improvements defensively should see him become a much better player.
