Sam Allardyce has spoken about the transfer business of Newcastle United this summer.
Sam Allardyce has explained that Newcastle United fans are concerned about the lack of spending in this summer’s transfer window and expects it to fall on manager Rafael Benitez to keep them in the Premier League for the new season.
The Magpies have not quite spent the money some supporters are crying out for owner Mike Ashley to spend, but have added five new faces so far to the squad.
Yoshinori Muto, Martin Dubravka, Fabian Schar, Ki Sung-Yueng and Kenedy (loan) have all moved to St James’ Park so far in the window.
However, ex-Newcastle boss Allardyce believes his former side have been left behind by a number of their league rivals in terms of spending and that could leave them fighting a relegation battle in the 2018/19 campaign.
“I think they (fans) will be concerned because once other clubs have gone way past your spending again that makes life very difficult for Rafa to get better than what they achieved last season,” Allardyce told talkSPORT.
“They have been into the transfer market, but they are in the lower reaches of the spending in this summer’s window. It will concern Rafa and the Newcastle fans.
“I think that what will happen is you will need to use Rafa’s experience again to make sure Newcastle stay in the Premier League.”
Newcastle did manage to finish in a loft 10th last season following their return to the Premier League, but the table was quite congested and supporters now want to see the club kick on.
They have added Japan international Muto to try help their problems in the final third, but the 26-year-old has had no Premier League experience.
Meanwhile, fans have grown frustrated that promoted side such as Fulham and Wolves have made some notable additions to their respective squads.
