Sam Allardyce believes that Tottenham Hotspur are unlikely to reap the rewards of their new stadium during the next couple of years and has explained that a lack of transfer business this summer will have a negative knock-on effect.
Spurs have injected money into a new ground for the 2018/19 campaign, but that has seen them not sign a single player in the transfer window so far.
Allardyce claims the North London club will be struggling for cash and that manager Mauricio Pochettino is the one to suffer as a result.
Allardyce has tipped Spurs to drift further away from winning any silverware and expects an average campaign.
“For Tottenham a billion pound stadium as well, I think that is very tight the cash now for them a bit like Arsenal when they moved,” Allardyce said on talkSPORT show the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.
“They won’t reap the rewards of the new stadium for three of four years to come I don’t think, which is not good news for the Tottenham fans or Mauricio if they wan’t to win that title or win something.
“As exciting as they are, I’ve just got a feeling that maybe it’ll just be a mediocre season for them.”
Spurs have been linked with a number of players this summer, but the window closes at 5pm today (Thursday) to sign players on a permanent basis.
According to Sky Sports’ live transfer blog (7:09am, 9 August), Pochettino’s side are hoping to continue discussions with Aston Villa over a move for their midfielder Jack Grealish, but the Championship club claim he is not for sale.
Spurs fans are desperate to see at least one new face arrive for the new season, but the deadline is fast approaching them.
