Roy Hodgson believes Crystal Palace attacker Christian Benteke will be motivated against former side Liverpool.
Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has claimed that centre-forward Christian Benteke is desperate to forget about last season and claims he will be extremely motivated for the upcoming clash with Liverpool.
The Belgian striker managed just three goals in 31 appearances across all competitions and majorly struggled in front of goal.
He is a target man that has shown in the past he can be a clinical goalscorer when he has confidence, netting 17 in all competitions for Palace in the 2016/17 season.
The Seagulls host Liverpool on Monday night in their next Premier League game and will be hoping to cause an upset against one of the title favourites.
“It would mean a lot for him (Benteke) to score. He’s desperate to put last season behind him. What better way to do that against his former club. It won’t be difficult to motivate him for that game,” Hodgson said in his pre-match press conference, as quoted by Football.London.
Benteke previously had a brief spell in his career at Liverpool, scoring 10 goals in 42 appearances for the Merseyside giants.
The 27-year-old would surely love to score against his former side in the upcoming clash and played alongside talented teammate Wilfried Zaha on the opening day of the season.
Hodgson is another with connections to Liverpool after previously managing them and will be trying to get one over on counterpart Jurgen Klopp.
