Sheffield United have reportedly agreed a £4million deal with Brentford for their defender John Egan.

Sheffield United have reportedly agreed a fee with Brentford to sign their defender John Egan.

The Blades have agreed a £4million deal with their Championship rivals to sign the centre-back, according to the Sun in their print edition (Page 55, 19 July).

It is understood the 25-year-old will get a big pay rise if he completes a switch to Bramall Lane this summer.

The Yorkshire Post previously reported that Egan’s move to Sheffield United was almost done, and it appears that they have now reached an agreement with Brentford to sign him.

Manager Chris Wilder looks set to continue bolstering his back line this summer, as they have already added goalkeeper Dean Henderson on loan from Premier League giants Manchester United.

Egan has proved himself to be a no-nonsense defender in the Championship and was a mainstay in the Brentford XI last season, as they finished ninth in the league, one place above the Blades.

The two-time Republic of Ireland international previously spent a brief loan spell with Sheffield United in 2012 and looks set to return now a much improved player.

Egan is currently the Brentford captain and his leadership qualities could be a big boost to Wilder’s side, while his hunger and desire is clear to see on the pitch.
