Newcastle United could reportedly sign midfielder Thiago Maia on loan.

Newcastle United could reportedly sign midfielder Thiago Maia from French club Lille in this transfer window.
According to Le10 Sport, the Ligue 1 club are looking to send the Brazilian out on loan this season before allowing a permanent exit next summer.
The report details that the 21-year-old could be set for a move to St James’ Park on an initial loan this summer, with a permanent option to sign him at £22.3million (€25million).
Maia is a defensive midfielder renowned for his no-nonsense approach and has represented the Brazil national team up to Under-23s level.
The youngster was a mainstay in the Lille starting XI next season, but could be the latest South American to make the switch to the Premier League.

Newcastle currently have a lack of options in the centre of the park going into next season, with Mohamed Diame, Ki Sung-Yueng and Jonjo Shelvey the frontrunners for a spot in the starting XI.
Manager Rafael Benitez has made a few signings in the transfer window in the shape of Martin Dubravka, Fabian Schar and Ki, but is yet to really splash the cash on any new arrivals.
