Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has reportedly verbally agreed to become the next Aston Villa manager.
According to the Daily Star, the 40-year-old has agreed in principle to take charge at Villa and land his first ever senior role in management, having worked as an assistant for the Belgium national team.
It is understood that Henry could take charge at the Championship club once he has had reassurances from the new owners, while he will need to agree a salary package and transfer budget.
The report details that there are still obstacles for the Midlands club to overcome such as Henry’s wages, while they are yet to sack current boss Steve Bruce.
Villa could be set for a major summer shake-up after losing in the play-off final to Fulham at the end of last season.
They could be the latest club to take a punt on an unknown manager, something that Derby County and Rangers have done through hiring Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard respectively.
Henry did work under Roberto Martinez as Belgium’s assistant coach and helped them to a third-placed finish at the World Cup this summer.
He is familiar to English audiences from his time as an Arsenal player and he could now chance his arm in management.
