Sunderland centre-forward Connor Shields reportedly looks set to leave the club on loan for Scottish outfit Morton.
According to the Scottish Sun, the Black Cats manager Jack Ross has made the 21-year-old available to depart this summer on a temporary basis to help his development.
The report details that Morton are in pole position to win the race for his signature on loan and are ready to make their move.
It is understood that Alloa and Partick have considered the Sunderland youngster, but Morton looks like being his next destination.
Shields is a promising talent that only moved to the Stadium of Light back in January and went straight into the Under-23s side.
He previously showed his quality in the Scottish League One in the first half of the season, as he netted nine goals for Albion Rovers before his switch to Wearside.
Sunderland appear to have enough ammunition in attack to allow Shields’ departure in the summer and he will hope a good loan spell can bring him closer to the first-team.
Ross got off to a strong start during his first game in charge of Sunderland, as they beat Charlton 2-1 in their league opener at the weekend.
