Celtic are reportedly leading contenders to sign midfielder Pedro Chirivella this summer from Premier League club Liverpool.

According to Goal, the Scottish giants could land him on a £3.5million deal after the player previously decided to turn down a move to Rosenborg this summer.

It is understood that the 21-year-old wants to reunite with Bhoys manager Brendan Rodgers after he previously gave him his senior debut at Anfield.

The report details that Nottingham Forest and Swansea have also been keen on the Spaniard, but Celtic are in pole position and the player does look set to depart Liverpool this summer.

Chirivella is a central midfielder that is likely to leave Anfield and a switch to Parkhead appears firmly on the cards given the crucial Rodgers factor that he previously worked under him.

Rodgers has become a popular figure at Celtic after his spell at Liverpool and has won a domestic double treble in his first two years.

He has overseen a fairly quiet transfer window so far despite the permanent arrival of Odsonne Edouard, but they could kick into gear late in the window by capturing Liverpool’s pass master.

Chirivella spent time last season out on loan with Dutch side Willem II, where he was a permanent fixture in the starting XI.
