Italian club Cagliari are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Liverpool defender Ragnar Klavan.

According to Sky Sports Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the Serie A outfit are in the final stages of negotiations to land the enforcer on a £1.8million deal.

The 32-year-old looks set to depart Anfield after two years with the Merseyside club. The no-nonsense centre-back will depart having made 53 appearances.

Klavan has been a decent option for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, but he has now slipped far down the defensive pecking order for this season, behind centre-backs such as Dejan Lovren, Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez.

Klavan looks set to try his hand in the Italy after previous spell in major leagues in England, Germany and Holland.

Meanwhile, Liverpool fans will hope their current squad are good enough to compete for the Premier League title and commanding centre-back Van Dijk is set to be crucial for them. Liverpool got off to a storming 4-0 home win over West Ham in their first league match last weekend, but travel to potential bogey side Crystal Palace on Monday.
