Newcastle United should consider a swoop for Swansea City midfielder Sam Clucas, who is reportedly being eyed up for a £12million deal by Burnley.

Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez is seen during the Premier League match between Newcastle United and Chelsea at St. James Park on May 13, 2018 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England.

Newcastle United lost a key figure this summer in the shape of central midfielder Mikel Merino and it’s an exit that hasn’t gone down well with some of the St James’ Park faithful.

The left-footed Spaniard offered a great balance in the heart of midfield and has a brilliant range of passing, but he has linked up with La Liga club Real Sociedad on a permanent transfer.

Rafael Benitez does have some great options in the shape of Mohamed Diame, Jonjo Shelvey and new signing Ki Sung-yueng at his disposal, but they could do with a left-footed option going into the next season.

One man that should crop up on the Magpies radar is Swansea City’s Sam Clucas, who was unfortunately relegated from the Premier League last season.

Premier League outfit Burnley are hoping to push through a £12million deal to sign Clucas ahead of their Europa League campaign, according to the Sun.

However, Newcastle should go about hijacking interest in the 27-year-old and he is someone that could be very smart addition to the squad.

Clucas is a versatile ace that can play anywhere across the midfield, but is a great passer of a ball who is most effective in the centre of the park and could be the perfect like-for-like replacement with Merino.

The Englishman has the potential to be a real midfield force if given a run of games in the side and Newcastle supporters are now desperate for the club to bring in a few new additions.
