Martin Keown has claimed that Everton need to go out and sign a central defender before the transfer window closes.

Martin Keown believes that Everton should still go out and sign a centre-back in the remainder of the transfer window.
The Toffees currently have Phil Jagielka, Mason Holgate and Michael Keane as senior options for the heart of defence going into the new campaign.
The transfer window will close on Thursday at 5pm, leaving clubs with very little time to conclude their business.
Pundit Keown insists that Everton boss Marco Silva needs to improve his personnel in defence ahead of the new season and feels they could bring in a new option.
“They were shipping a lot of goals last year,” Keown told told the Daily Star.
“They probably need to strengthen in the central defensive position. They’ve let Williams go in the last few days.
“Jagielka looks like he’ll play so that’s an area they may look perhaps to strengthen.”

Everton’s backline was a major weak point last season and Ashley Williams has paid the price for that by being loaned out to Stoke this season in the Championship.
The Merseyside club now have new boss Silva at the helm and he is known for his expansive attacking style of play, but supporters will be keen to see an improvement in defence too.
According to the Mirror, Everton have made a £28million bid for Barcelona centre-back Yerry Mina and are fighting Lyon for the Colombian’s signature.
Silva has so far this window managed to add attacker Richardson and left-back Lucas Digne to his squad.
