A look at how Liverpool and Everton players rated for their performances in the World Cup.

Liverpool and Everton had a combined total of 11 players on show this summer at the World Cup, which concluded with France lifting the trophy aloft.

The Merseyside clubs were well represented throughout the tournament and one even went on to reach the final.

Here is a look at how players from Liverpool and Everton rated at the World Cup:

Liverpool

Jordan Henderson (England) – 8/10

The Liverpool captain really impressed on the global stage with England and was pivotal in the heart of midfield. He has had to battle against criticism through most of his career, but the deep-lying play-maker won a lot of people over this summer.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (England) – 5/10

It has been a roller coaster 12 months for the Reds youngster and just to be included in the senior squad should be massively applauded. His sole appearance of the tournament came in a group stage match against Belgium and he showed a glimpse into the fact he could be England’s future.

Roberto Firmino (Brazil) – 7/10

The attacker failed to start a match for his country on their run to the World Cup quarter-final, but every time he came off the bench he impressed. He did manage to grab a goal during a late cameo against Mexico and should be fresh on his return to Anfield.

Dejan Lovren (Croatia) – 8/10

First of all he deserves major credit for helping his nation get to the World Cup final and the centre-back was resilient for the majority. He was carved open in the final against a rampant France side, but overall he should be pleased with his efforts.

Simon Mignolet (Belgium) – N/A

The goalkeeper did not get on the pitch in the end due to the stunning form of golden glove winner Thibaut Courtois and it will be interesting to see what his future holds.

Marko Grujic (Serbia) – N/A

The midfielder was part of the squad that went to the World Cup, but did not get any action as his side were dumped out at the group stages.

Sadio Mane (Senegal) – 6/10

He has a lot of pressure on his shoulders as his nation’s star player and didn’t manage to help them qualify out of a difficult group, despite scoring against Japan. The electric winger didn’t hit the dizzy heights he is capable of, but Liverpool fans know how dangerous he can be on his day.

Mohamed Salah (Egypt) 7/10

Salah scored two in two games for his country, but missing the opening game through injury and having a lack of talent around him meant he went no further than the group stages.

Everton

Jordan Pickford (England) – 9/10

Pickford was one of the star performs in an England team that finished fourth this summer and heroically won his side a penalty shootout against Colombia in the last 16. The goalkeeper’s distribution from the back was impeccable and the Toffees have a brilliant shot-stopper on their books.

Gylfi Sigurdsson (Iceland) – 7/10

Iceland may not have got out of the groups in their debut year at the World Cup, but had some competitive matches and the Everton play-maker was at the heart of their displays. He managed a goal and an assist in just three games.

Idrissa Gueye (Senegal) – 5/10

Gueye looked solid in midfield for the majority of Senegal’s group stage matches and fans have become accustomed to watching his defensive prowess, but he did receive some heavy criticism after his nation’s exit. His booking played a part in Senegal’s departure from the tournament and he was caught sleeping on the post when Colombia’s Yerry Mina netted a header from a corner.
