Liverpool have been dealt a blow as target Harry Maguire is reportedly in line for a new contract at Leicester.
One man to come out of the World Cup with a glowing reputation is Leicester City’s Harry Maguire, with Liverpool reportedly one of the teams interested in signing him.
Reds manager Jurgen Klopp is believed to be a big fan of the Foxes defender and has been contemplating a possible summer move, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Meanwhile, Manchester United have been preparing a £50million bid for the centre-back after his dazzling displays for England in the World Cup, according to the Daily Mail.
However, both interested clubs may be dealt a major blow, as Leicester reportedly prepare to dig their heels in and offer him an extended stay at the King Power Stadium.
Leicester will offer Maguire a “lucrative” new contract when he return from the World Cup after the third place play-off against Belgium, according to the Telegraph.
The 25-year-old is reportedly set to be offered a new deal of around £80,000-a-week to try fend off potential suitors.
Magurie’s reputation has shot up in the past 12 months and his performances on the world stage for Gareth Southgate’s side have seen him earn rave reviews.
He is a ball-playing centre-back that is comfortable coming out from defence in possession, while he is also a monster in the air.
Liverpool do already have Virgil Van Dijk and Dejan Lovren as a preferred centre-back combination, but the backline has been an ongoing issue at Anfield in recent years.
It remains to be seen where Maguire’s immediate future lies, but Leicester look set to do all they can to keep the elite clubs in England at bay.
