Jermain Defoe previously raved about the quality of Tottenham transfer target Lewis Cook.
Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly lining up a bid for Bournemouth midfielder Lewis Cook and Tottenham fans should be intrigued to hear what their former player Jermain Defoe said about him back in March.
According to the Express, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is eyeing a £30million move for the central midfielder and wants to test Bournemouth’s resolve with an offer.
The 21-year-old pass master is a regular in the Bournemouth starting XI and has already represented England at senior level, while playing a key role as captain in youth teams too.
Defoe, who is currently on the books at Bournemouth and is an ex-Spurs striker, explained back in March that teammate Cook has all the tools to go the top.
He even compared him to Real midfielder’s world-class midfielder Luka Modric, who was also once previously at Spurs.
“Oh my God, he’s got unbelievable potential,” Defoe previously told talkSPORT.
“I call him ‘little maestro’. I said to him, ‘you remind me of Luka Modric’.
“But seriously, the way he plays, the way he receives the ball, his confidence, the way he takes the ball into certain areas.
“He’s got everything to be honest – he’s got the right temperament, he’s professional, he’s aggressive, he works hard of the pitch and in the gym.”
Cook is a technically gifted central midfielder renowned for his range of passing and ability to squeeze out of tight areas in possession.
There are already a number of English talents in the Spurs squad and it appears like Pochettino wants to add another to the ranks.
Cook is a product of Leeds United’s academy and since his move to the Premier League has adjusted very quickly.
