Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson is regarded by most as the club’s outstanding player from the last couple of years, but he could be under some pressure to catch the eye of manager Marcelo Bielsa on Tuesday night.
The Whites boss has confirmed he will make wholesale changes for the Carabao Cup clash at home to Bolton and the 27-year-old will make his first appearance of the season.
Jansson has been eased back into the first team after his participation in the World Cup with Sweden and had to watch two of his teammates thrive in the Leeds XI.
The powerhouse centre-back could now face a tough battle to force his way back into the side, as the combination of Gaetano Berardi and Liam Cooper has worked so far for Bielsa in the Championship.
Jansson is expected to force his way back into the main starting XI eventually and the best way to speed up that process is to turn in a dominant performance in the cup against Bolton.
Bielsa will give the rest of Leeds’ squad the opportunity to impress him in midweek, but for now the league side looks settled after impressive victories over Stoke City and Derby County.
It is up to the players that take to the field against Bolton to convince the manager they can improve the team in the league.
