Tottenham Hotspur defender Kieran Trippier improved his growing reputation on Tuesday night by helping England to eliminate Colombia in the last 16 of the World Cup, but that may not be good news for Spurs teammate Serge Aurier.

Trippier, 27, once again turned in a dazzling performance for the Three Lions, as they sensationally beat Colombia on penalties.

He has been one of the outstanding defenders in the tournament so far and his performances can only be good news for Spurs, too.

Trippier is in direct competition with speed machine Aurier at right-back and the manager marginally favoured the Englishman during the last season, but the latter still featured 24 times in all competitions.

However, it seems difficult to see how 27-year-old Trippier will not cement his slot in the side on a permanent basis next season based on his current form, and the sky seems the limit for him.

Aurier, 25, clearly has a lot of traits to be successful in England with his pace and power, but may have to be patient for his next run in the Tottenham side.
