Everton could certainly do with a revamp of their centre-back options this summer and finding a new partnership in the heart of defence should be a priority for manager Marco Silva.

They are allegedly keen on Newcastle’s Jamaal Lascelles and Barcelona’s Yerry Mina, who could form a formidable partnership at Goodison Park.

According to Goal, Everton are close to completing a £21million deal for Colombia international Mina and he is a powerhouse that seriously impressed at the World Cup.

Meanwhile, the Toffees are keen on Newcastle captain Lascelles and rivals West Ham have already seen a £25million bid turned down, according to the Mirror.

Newcastle do not want to sell their talisman at the back, but the Merseyside club should fork out for his signature to try to tempt a sale and build a centre-back combination that could be the future for them.

Lascelles, 24, has proved himself to be a brilliant player at St James’ Park and is the leader that is desperately missing in the Everton back line.

23-year-old Mina is someone who looks born to play in the Premier League given his pace and physicality, something that should see him adapt quickly, and fans should be excited that a deal is supposedly close.

Everton need serious improvements if they want to get back in the European spots, and having this monstrous duo at the back would really improve their chances.
